NICK'S JOURNEY
With encouragement from his sister, Nick embarks on a journey to overcome his fear of rejection through live-streaming embarrassing public acts and invites his fast-growing audience to live vicariously through him.
ACT 1 | UNLOCKED
After being cancelled, Nick transforms himself into the party-boy leader of the manosphere. As his popularity explodes, iamjessy02 unexpectedly reenters his life to join him on his international tour, where a strange romance begins to blossom.
ACT 2 | UNCUCKED
Following his second, brutal public humiliation by iamjessy02 and the subsequent loss of his audience, Nick spirals into increasingly self-destructive behaviours in a desperate attempt to regain his fame.
ACT 3 | UNLEASHED

When Nick finds himself the victim of another streamer’s content (iamjessy02), he unwittingly becoming a viral sensation and one that triggers an online debate. After Marina, his sister, convinces Nick to take advantage of the date’s proceeding furore, his online personality becomes that of a wronged victim who magnanimously seeks to turn this awful personal experience into something productive for himself and his followers. This first act feels playful and without consequence, as Nick loses himself in an exciting new world where he gains popularity through a wholly positive campaign of facing one’s fears through undertaking typically embarrassing acts. Nick’s confidence and fame quickly grows through his childlike willingness to subvert social norms with a carefree attitude. This act closes in a darker mood, as his deep-set insecurities are brought to the fore in a rage-filled outburst whilst on a live-streamed date, which is triggered by a reminder of his humiliation by iamjessy02.

Nick is now estranged from his sister and a section of his audience following his disturbing display of aggression towards the woman who he takes on a live-streamed date. Despite this, Nick’s newfound red-pill audience sends him to superstardom as he features on podcasts, gains a more professional camera team and entourage, and as he takes the stream worldwide. Nick mirrors his now celebrity status with a new look, reminiscent of the hyper-masculine archetype that currently pervades online circles, as he sports freshly cropped hair, crisp suits and sunglasses. Nick’s ethos of overcoming shame has twisted to be masculine focused as he now espouses how men are made to feel worthless, helpless, and emasculated by modern society. His challenges become more uncomfortable and provocative as his persona becomes increasingly impacted by his growing audience. Nick is joined by iamjessy02, who has been on a separate but similar journey since their first interaction, and they develop an unexpected connection while his follower base surges to the millions. Following a wild live-streamed event celebrating a subscriber milestone, Nick is unwittingly humiliated once again by iamjessy02, in such a brutal manner that it strips him of his entire facade.

Nick’s final form leads him into car crash territory. Now his predominant audience are trolls who revel in his downfall, and his desperate acts reflect their anonymous, twisted desires. An attempted reconciliation with Marina on her podcast quickly goes south and becomes the catalyst for his self-inflicted isolation. Nick returns to his hometown in an attempt to showcase the true, authentic Nick, but one-by-one, his team leave him as his erratic behaviour leads him into worrying and illegal acts. From enlisting a prostitute who he names Jessica, to smoking crack, to a distressing home invasion— here we feel Nick’s sanity begin to crumble in a foreboding and unpredictable period where we fear for the safety of both Nick, and those he elects to engage with. Ultimately, Nick’s desperation leads him to stage a fake, live-streamed suicide in a last ditched attempt to regain favour with the online community that once made him feel special.
EPILOGUE
The production of Hey Guys is unique in that it mirrors the process of live streaming in both its style and approach. To create an authentic aesthetic, we’re committed to replicating the real-world setup of streamers, opting for low-budget cameras and a guerrilla filmmaking style over traditional cine-ma-grade equipment and intricate setups. This decision allows us to capture the raw, unfiltered energy of live streaming, while keeping the production grounded and genuine.
